The Descending Moon

I was walking down a street during the day when I looked up and saw the moon. It was beautiful—a pale white and blue sphere, transparent against the daylight sky. I could see the blue sky through it, and its presence filled me with wonder.

As I continued walking, I noticed that the moon was descending toward the Earth. It grew larger and larger, and I found myself following it with my eyes. Though I was captivated by its beauty, troubled thoughts entered my mind. I wondered what would happen if it collided with the Earth. Apocalyptic images began to arise.

Yet I could not look away.

The moon continued to descend, becoming enormous. I could feel its energy and its warmth. The air grew hotter. I thought of my children and felt the need to protect them. But instead of running away, I found myself moving toward the descending sphere.

Soon it was so close that it almost touched the rooftops of the buildings. It filled the sky above me, immense and radiant, still white and blue, still transparent in the daylight. I stood beneath it in awe.

Then it passed directly over my head. Wanting somehow to touch it, I reached toward the great luminous sphere. Its heat became overwhelming, and as it burned above me, I awoke.
